Seven Classic Chicago Spots You Need On Your List

via Gibson’s

If you’ve lived in Chicago for a few years, or your whole life, there are a number of must-try classics that have been around forever. Whether you have guests in town, or you’re feeling extra sentimental about this amazing place we get to call home, we recommend checking out any of these incredible spots to help fall even more in love with the Windy City.

Gibsons Bar & Steakhouse {Multiple Locations}

This steakhouse has been open since 1989 and has only gotten more iconic. Their original location on Rush Street has incredible history that’s documented in hundreds of framed photos hung on the walls there, so be sure to take a few minutes to peruse! The steaks are top notch, and they actually get all of their USDA certified Prime Beef from a very select list of producers in the upper Midwest. If you pair one of their incredible Filet Mignon cuts with a glass of wine from their extensive wine list, we know you’ll be in heaven.

Lottie’s {1925 West Cortland Street, Chicago; 773.489.0738}

After or before dinner at Club Lucky,  head to Lottie’s, an old standby in the heart of Bucktown. It’s the perfect spot to grab a beer and watch a  game with friends, family or the regulars at the bar.  Lottie’s is the definition of a neighborhood bar.  In fact, it’s even featured in Chicago Fire as a local watering hole! This classic spot just celebrated its 90th anniversary. There’s no doubt the 100th birthday party will be even more epic.

via Club Lucky

Club Lucky {1824 West Wabansia Avenue, Chicago; 773.227.2300}

If you’re craving a traditional Italian dinner with an ice cold martini, look no further than Club Lucky. This Bucktown spot has the most delicious homemade cavatelli. You’ll feel like you’re stepping back into a mid-century Supper Club. The vibe is just as immaculate as their hardy menu and extra large drinks.

Tavern on Rush {1015 North Rush Street, Chicago}

This classic Gold Coast restaurant is re-opening this summer in a new location (within the Thompson Chicago Hotel) just two doors down from the original spot. We can’t wait to see what the new lively, upscale spot has in store and  dive into their mouth watering dishes and their out of this world martinis!

Twin Anchors Restaurant & Tavern {1655 North Sedgwick Street, Chicago; 312.266.1616}

This classic Chicago spot has been serving tender baby-back ribs for nearly 100 years! Yes, you heard that right! Twin Anchors Restaurant & Tavern is one of the oldest restaurants in the city of Chicago. It was founded in 1932. If you have friends visiting, this is a really fun  spot to enjoy some incredible ribs in a cozy little tavern in Old Town. The building itself dates back to 1881, and it was actually used as a speakeasy during Prohibition. It was also one of Frank Sinatra’s favorite spots. There’s so much history to talk about over a delicious meal. We guarantee your out of town visitors will be talking about this spot for a while!

via Chicago Chop House

Chicago Chop House {60 West Ontario Street, Chicago; 312.787.7100}

Nothing goes more hand-in-hand than Chicago and a delicious steak. And nothing’s quite as iconic as Chicago Chop House in River North. It’s a fantastic old school spot in a restored Victorian brownstone that was originally built in 1897. You can’t go wrong with any of their steaks, and trust us, there are many to try, so get a different one every time you go! But don’t miss out on the sides either (we dream about the Loaded Baked Potato often).

Greek Islands {Multiple Locations}

If you’re craving Greek food, you definitely have to make a stop at Greek Islands. This classic spot is one of the original Greek restaurants in Greektown. They’ve been open since 1971 and they’ve never stopped serving the most delicious traditional dishes. Their endless menu has something for everyone (our favorite may very well be the grilled octopus). They import their own extra virgin olive oil (they use 40 tons a year!), wine, cheese, spices, beans and seafood directly from Greece. You’ll have an unforgettable experience here!
