The Best Pie Shops to Sweeten Up Your Thanksgiving

The Dearborn

There’s no doubt that when most people think of Thanksgiving food, they imagine plates full of turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes and of course… PIE. With work, travel and the craziness that sometimes comes with the holidays, not everyone has time to make their own dessert from scratch though. That’s why we’ve rounded up some of Chicago’s best desserts to order ahead of time to make your Thanksgiving as easy as pie.

The Dearborn {145 North Dearborn Street, Chicago; 312.384.1242}

Known for pre-theatre dinner and Sunday brunches, The Dearborn is always a crowd favorite. And running now through November 22, The Dearborn’s Pastry Chef, Julianna Westgor, is offering pre-orders of her specialty pies including: Crispy Phyllo Apple Pie, Bourbon Pecan Pie, or the Black Forest Meringue Pie. Available for pick up on November 22 through December 31, diners can choose one, or choose all, but no matter which you choose you won’t be able to stop eating these amazing desserts!

Dusek's Tavern {1227 West 18th Street, Chicago; 312.526.3851}

If you’re looking for a classic pie with a twist, head over to Dusek’s on Wednesday, November 24 from 11AM-6PM and Thursday, November 25 from 9AM-12PM at Thalia Hall (1807 South Allport Street) to get a Caramelized Pumpkin Pie from Good Amber. With a velvety texture and caramelized top, this will be the talk of your Thanksgiving table for years to come. Order deadline is November 18 at 5PM so don’t miss out!

sugargoat {820 W Randolph Street, Chicago; 312.667.0108}

Sugargoat is the perfect place for non-traditional pie lovers. If pumpkin and apple pies seem a bit predictable, sugargoat is here to inspire. With options like Chocolate French Fry Pie, the perfect combo of salty and sweet (think french fries in a milkshake), and Cheesecake Pie, for those people who don’t really like pie, sugargoat pies are bound to be a conversation starter in the best way possible.

Vanille Pâtisserie {multiple locations}

A Chicago gem for cakes and pastries, Vanille never disappoints. This is the perfect place to get your Thanksgiving classics like Butterscotch, Pumpkin, Apple, Chocolate French Silk and Pecan Pies. If you want a dessert that you know comes from the best, Vanille is the way to go!

Hewn Bakery {1733 Central Street, Evanston; 847.869.4396}

Listed as one of the Best Bread Bakeries at the Food Network, Hewn is known for their made-from-scratch breads and baked goods, all naturally leavened and crafted from local grains. For Thanksgiving, this woman-owned bakery is offering a variety of items to-go, including their Bourbon Pecan Pie, Pumpkin Pie and even pie shells that you can use to make your own. All orders must be placed on Tock by Saturday, November 20 at 8PM for pick up on Tuesday, November 23 and Wednesday, November 24.

Andros Taverna {2542 North Milwaukee Avenue, Chicago; 773.365.1900}

If you wish you were in Greece for the holidays, but couldn’t fit it into your schedule, Andros Taverna will bring the Mediterranean straight to your table. Pastry Chef Hsing Chen’s mastery is on full display with her annual bakery box choices like Apple Pie Galaktoboureko, Pumpkin Phyllo Pie or Traditional Baklava Pie. Each pie serves 8-10 people and orders are guaranteed if ordered by 12PM on Tuesday, November 23 for pickup on Wednesday, November 24.

Travelle {The Langham, Chicago; 330 North Wabash Avenue, Chicago; 312.923.7705}

Available Tuesday, November 23 and Wednesday, November 24 from noon to 6:30PM, Travelle is having a Pop-Up Pie Shop with freshly baked seasonal showpieces by Pastry Chef Nitin Bali. Available pies include Apple Pie, Bourbon Pecan Pie, and Grandma’s Pumpkin Pie – each $35. All are also available for pre-order via the Travelle Tock.

Lost Larson {multiple locations}:

Described as a Scandinavian-inspired, neighborhood bakery with a focus on regional grain and artisanal goods, Lost Larson has been a neighborhood favorite in Andersonville and Wicker Park for several years. From now until pickup on Tuesday, November 23 and Wednesday, November 24 they are not only offering their delicious Apple Pie, but will have desserts including: Princess Cake, a traditional Swedish Cake, Pear Hazelnut Chocolate Tart, Basque Cheesecake and more. If you are looking for a crowd pleaser, you’re bound to find it here!
