Curtain Call: Dinner Spots for Chicago Theater-Goers

via Francois Frankie

Going to the theater has been a time-honored tradition for so many of us.  From Broadway classics like The Lion King and Phantom of the Opera to newly found fan favorites like Hamilton and SIX (if you know, you know), theater in Chicago is just as popular as ever. If you’re looking for a weekend full of theater fun and want to grab a bite before the show, these are our favorite spots…

Francois Frankie {222 West Randolph Street, Chicago; 312.600.9659}

In the mood for a pre-theater dinner that combines elegance and drama? Head over to Francois Frankie! Chef Omar Silva is serving up all things French including Lobster Tail Ratatouille, Classic Steak Frites, and so much more! And don’t forget to grab a drink from their famed rotating carousel bar before heading to the show.

The Dearborn {145 North Dearborn Street, Chicago: 312.384.1242}

For top-level service with food to match, there’s no better destination than The Dearborn, right around the corner from the Nederlander Theater. Try out fan favorites including the Everything Parker House Rolls and Midwest Fried Chicken before sinking your teeth into main dishes like their award-winning Fish and Chips. And if you’re looking for a drink to top off your delicious meal, our favorite is the Pomegranate-Anise Spritz!

via Alla Vita

Alla Vita {564 West Randolph Street, Chicago; 312) 667-0104}

Whimsical decor that makes you feel like you’re in the middle of a foodie fairytale? Color us intrigued. Nuzzled in the West Loop, Alla Vita is a semi-casual, family-friendly eatery known for its delicious food and stunning surroundings. We love everything, but our favorites include Ricotta Dumplings, San Daniele Prosciutto Pizza, and Alla Vita's Chicken Parmigiana. It’s just a short jaunt from the theater district!

312 Chicago {136 North LaSalle Street, Chicago; 312.325.7100}

Chicago’s famed Italian eatery is a long-time favorite of Chicago theatergoers. Sip on a variety of wines and cocktails while you search their menu of delicious dishes. Trust us, there’s plenty to choose from! From Risotto e Gamberoni to Gnocchi e Provola and so much more, you’ll never be disappointed with a meal here.

Prime & Provisions {222 North LaSalle Street, Chicago; 312.726.7777}

This high-end steakhouse is the perfect place to get your eat on before heading to the theater. With stunning city views and menu items that would tempt  just about anyone, you can count on Prime and Provisions for a great start to your night out. Indulge in dishes from their dinner menu such as their Chilled Half Maine Lobster or your choice of steaks. They also have one of our favorite happy hour menus in the city!

avec {615 West Randolph Street, Chicago; 312.377.2002}

Head over to the West Loop for a taste of the Mediterranean! Unique offerings like their famous Medjool Dates stuffed with chorizo and bacon as well as Corn Pizza fill the menu at avec. Share a few small plates with your group or get a main to yourself, but regardless of what you choose, it’s a perfect place to grab a few nibbles before a show.

via Taureaux Tavern

Taureaux Tavern {155 West Van Buren Street, Chicago; 312.624.8778}

Enjoy a taste of France with a global flair (and an all-year heated patio!). Callouts on the Taureaux Tavern menu include Baked Goat Cheese and Caramelized Wings for appetizers and the Grilled Steak Sandwich for your main course. And if you’re craving a sweet treat, you can’t go wrong with their layered Manhattan Trifle.

Petterino's {150 North Dearborn Street, Chicago; 312.422.0150}

Steps from the heart of Chicago’s Theater District, Petterino's is another long-time favorite of people looking for a bite to eat before a show. Their Italian meets American menu features classics like Spaghetti and Meatballs and Margherita Pizza, as well as Chicken Parmesan and Caprese Sandwiches, just to name a few. Regardless of what dish you tear into, you’ll leave full and happy.
