Chicago’s Sweetest Summer Sweet Treats
Summertime is all about treating yourself and that means plenty of sweet sweet desserts are in your future, Chicago! With temperatures staying high, and the sun staying extra sunshine-y in the Windy City, it’s the perfect time to set up a dessert crawl through our awesome food city, and we have JUST the spots to hit up first. From classics like ice cream and cake, to more creative bites, dessert is about to become your main course…
Chocolate Cream Puff from Ace Hotel Chicago {311 North Morgan Street, Chicago; 312.764.1919}: We honestly recommend ordering all three of the summer desserts from Pastry Chef Felicia Mayden (Carrot Cake, Peach Cobbler and the Chocolate Cream Puff), but if you HAVE to pick one, you should always go with chocolate.
Beatrix Chocolate-Stuffed Nutella Cookie {multiple locations}: Just reading the name of that dessert should be enough to convince you to buy it. Chocolate AND Nutella stuffed IN a cookie?! Sign us up! You can’t go wrong with the Beatrix pastries menu, whether you want something to pair with your morning coffee (they have that too!), for a mid-afternoon slump refresh, or as an after-dinner treat.
Bombobar Bombolatos {multiple locations}: If your summer hasn’t yet included a Bombolato, that is something that needs to be remedied immediately. This bomboloni gelato sandwich is PACKED with sugar, can get a little messy, and is basically the dream warm weather dessert. We recommend the Mint Oreo, but all their flavors are out of this world…just grab extra napkins!
EPIC Burger Milkshakes {multiple locations}: Name a bite more perfect than a crisp French fry dipped in a creamy milkshake. We’ll wait while you think… 😉 The EPIC Burger milkshakes are (logically) epic, and they pair perfectly with their menu of burgers, fries and more. Sometimes classic is the best choice, and in this case, that’s absolutely true.
Sunda Sundae {110 West Illinois Street, Chicago; 312.644.0500}: Plan ahead for this one - It will be available in September! Complete with shaved ice, flan, jackfruit, mung bean, coconut gel, berries, ice cream, and condensed milk, there are so many layers of flavor in this amazingly beautiful sundae! It’s the perfect end to a light and fresh meal of Asian bites.
Lemon Meringue Frozen Greek Yogurt at aba {302 North Green Street, 3rd Floor, Chicago; 773.645.1400}: Summer heat waves call for something cool and refreshing, and aba delivers on that with their frozen Greek yogurt. It’s ideal to be enjoyed on their beautiful patio while you relax and take in Chicago’s summer vibes.
Goddess and Grocer Cakes {multiple locations}: You’ve probably seen the iconic Goddess Rainbow Cake on Instagram at some point, but their baked goods don’t stop there! Aside from a variety of fun and sugary cupcake options, they also have frequently-changing cake flavors for the season. Their August special is Lemon Blueberry with lemon curd and buttercream, and it is out of this world summery goodness!
