Chicago’s Top 10 Best Patios for Summer 2020

City Mouse

City Mouse

There is nothing quite like a Chicago patio. We have spent months counting down to summer during those eons of wintertime chill and spring quarantine, and now that bars and restaurants have started bringing out the patio furniture…Chicagoans are pumped. So, we’re keeping it simple and making it easy on you! Here are our top patio choices for July that will bring good food, good atmosphere, and the best of Chicago summer vibes…

Pizzeria Portofino {317 North Clark Street, Chicago; 312.900.9018}: We might not be able to fly away to Europe this summer, but Pizzeria Portofino will give you a taste of the Italian seaside in our own hometown. Right along the Chicago River, this is the perfect date night spot to meet for a spritz and a pizza.

City Mouse {311 North Morgan Street, Chicago; 312.764.1908}: Instead of jumping on a plane, take a staycation this summer and spend a night at a local Chicago spot like the Ace Hotel. They’re reserving rooms again starting in August, so you can escape from home even for a night, and since City Mouse is open now, you can spend happy hour on their patio before catching a good night’s sleep.

Formento’s

Formento’s

Formento’s {925 West Randolph Street, Chicago; 312.690.7295}: This expansive West Loop patio will give you plenty of space to enjoy Italian classics without feeling cramped or too close to other diners. We recommend starting with the Whipped Ricotta and digging into the Bucatini (with carbonara, pancetta, and egg yolk) as your main.

Aba {302 North Green Street 3rd floor, Chicago; 773.645.1400}: If you like hitting up the latest and greatest of Chicago’s spots, this is your patio destination. The Mediterranean hot spot is already famous for its beautiful interiors, but the patio is next level gorgeous. Come for cocktails, stay for shareable plates like the Short Rib Hummus.

Beatrix

Beatrix

Beatrix {multiple locations}: Though there are multiple Beatrix restaurants across the city and suburbs, their River North and Fulton Market patios are perfect for a summer brunch. Dig in to Light & Fluffy Lemon Pancakes or their Green Chili Enchiladas while you bask in the sunshine!

Boqueria {807 West Fulton Market, Chicago; 312.257.3177}: Spanish tapas are the perfect summer dish! Light bites, easily shareable with your favorite dinner dates, that will make you feel like you’re having a picnic in the park (without any work on your part).

Riccardo Osteria {1023 West Lake Street, Chicago; 312.291.8620}: In Italy, an “osteria” is a local gathering place for food, friends and wine. Riccardo Osteria is exactly that, right in Chicago! Their Trofie al Pesto alone is worth a visit, but we also recommend staying for a Panna Cotta on the patio.

Tuco and Blondie

Tuco and Blondie

Tuco and Blondie {3358 North Southport Avenue, Chicago; 773.327.8226}: This vibrant spot is serving up classic Mexican meals and margaritas on their spacious patio, making it a great summertime spot to try. Say “Cheers!” to summertime in style!

Le Sud {2301 West Roscoe Street, Chicago; 773.857.1985}: Let’s have a glass of wine along the French Riviera! Or how about in Roscoe Village instead? Le Sud is intimate and welcoming, and perfect for a smaller family meal or date.

Centre Street Kitchen {1224 West Webster Avenue, Chicago; 312.815.1917}: Keep your eyes peeled for the re-opening of this restaurant that serves delicious food AND does good in the community. Their mission is to help raise money for pediatric cancer, so they’ll be an inspiring and positive meal back out on the town this summer.
